Remove "Obtain xp bottle"

At least for me it happened already a couple times that games have come down to whoever can roll faster the 14% slop chance of an xp bottle generating in an iron shipwreck, and it feels like the circumstances to go max out a cleric are almost never met and just too slow to compete against a potential lucky roll on the other side (maybe there's some tech I'm unaware of, please tell me if that's the case).
That being said, as way more balanced shipwreck goals like "Eat sus stew" or "Eat poisonous potato" are already abundant in Draftout, I don't think this needs a replacement for that matter.
On the other hand, for hard villager trading goals I can only think of "Obtain chainmail armor" or "Eat cake/cookie", so if you believe it a problem maybe a good addition to this that could compensate for the cleric maxing would be to add "Trade for an explorer map*".
This trade requires an apprentice level cartographer, which takes roughly two stacks of paper, and the map itself always costs 8 emeralds and a compass, which may potentially require redstone if the compass is not found in the village chests.
Just like with the bottle, this probably will take some time out in the ocean with ships and sugar cane, but that time will generally be consistent and the goal will in all cases require going to a village unlike the other one.
*The phrasing "trade for" would be just for people to not get tangled with bt maps.

does this take into account the map changes coming?
Sugus846OP2 months ago
No, I haven't really been following the recent snapshots
Sugus846OP2 months ago
Would it be a problem??
Uniquepotatoes2 months ago
i still think xp bottle rates in ship wrecks should be standardized
Threadfinn2 months ago
Explorer map is much more difficult to trade for than xp bottle
noura 🜛2 months ago
villager trades won't change in 26.3
Sugus846OP2 months ago
It is, but it doesn't have a slop alternative, and thats the point
marvel2 months ago
i dunno, i just saw all maps are changing in some way
Threadfinn2 months ago
If it's just "any explorer map" then that just means find a shipwreck
Threadfinn2 months ago
And if not then there's rng on which explorer map you get
Sugus846OP2 months ago
Btw theres a reason why I haven't named this "Replace with ...", and it's just that I believe the best decision would be to just remove the goal and that's it
Sugus846OP2 months ago
Bro it wouldn't matter, just like the goal "eat sus stew" doesn't care what kind of sus stew you eat
Threadfinn2 months ago
ok so then trading would NEVER be a good idea
Sugus846OP2 months ago
Trading would be the only option mate
Threadfinn2 months ago
why get 2 stacks of paper when you could just loot a single map chest?
Threadfinn2 months ago
bt map
Threadfinn2 months ago
it's an explorer map
Sugus846OP2 months ago
Have u read the post?
noura 🜛2 months ago
op already said the goal should be to trade for a map lol
noura 🜛2 months ago
note the last paragraph
Threadfinn2 months ago
OK I may have read that as obtain
Threadfinn2 months ago
and I swear that last bit wasn't there but I'm probably just blind mb
Sugus846OP2 months ago
lmao but note that even if it was "obtain" the bt map isnt technically an explorer map
Sugus846OP2 months ago
np
Threadfinn2 months ago
it is on the wiki
Threadfinn2 months ago
Threadfinn2 months ago
Ok but why not make the goal "trade for an xp bottle"?
Coinly2 months ago
theres already chainmail
Sugus846OP2 months ago
Ok now that's my bad
Threadfinn2 months ago
If you want to force trading, xp bottle isn't even hard to trade for, you need 10 emeralds, a brewing stand, and 60 gold (7 blocks)
Threadfinn2 months ago(edited)
less gold if it's an igloo seed
Threadfinn2 months ago
Imo the obtain xp bottle goal is only bad because most people don't play it correctly. Yes there is some rng, but in general if people didn't just rely on shipwrecks it would be more skill based. You can get enough gold from either 1 monument, 1 bastion, or an average of 3 ruined portals, and 10 emeralds from just 1-2 ships.
Threadfinn2 months ago
If it's obtained early game it usually favors whoever committed to ocean first, although it can be rng if there's multiple ships equidistant from spawn.
Sugus846OP2 months ago
Ok I see ur point
Sugus846OP2 months ago
Actually thanks for that man
Threadfinn2 months ago
I see now what happened. my brain took the "obtain" from here and added it to the last sentence. And the last paragraph was cut off and I missed it when I scrolled down. Still a skill issue though
Sugus846OP2 months ago
Dw man, I think my comment on ur confusion was actually quite condescending given the fact that my blind ass didn't even see the bt map as an "explorer" in the wiki hahahh
Sugus846OP2 months ago
So I'm srry for that
Threadfinn2 months ago
No it's all good
Threadfinn2 months ago
I understand the frustration of arguing against someone who doesn't seem to have read anything you've said
Threadfinn2 months ago
Even if I did read it I clearly didn't understand that part correctly
Threadfinn2 months ago
And hey I learned that even though I don't really notice any other effects until at least 3, 2 beers apparently makes me dyslexic

Threadfinn2 months ago
And GG I had no internet so these didn't send until now
Threadfinn2 months ago(edited)
I don't understand the message order here, why did the only one I typed with internet send in the middle?
Ok actually that was just a bug on my end everything seems correct

trading for xp bottle actually needs 72 gold, or 8 blocks (on top of the 10 emeralds to get to get gold trade at level 2 and the 3 emeralds to trade for the actual bottle)
Threadfinn2 months ago
The first 12 trades are discounted
Uniquepotatoes2 months ago
yeah or you can just get a few more emerald and do it with like 20 golds
Threadfinn2 months ago(edited)
You just need 10 emeralds. Then 12 gold trades (24 gold). Wait for level up and restock, do a few more gold trades, wait for level up and do the remaining gold trades to get master. Then buy it with some of the emeralds you got by selling gold.

42/70 emeralds with 0 gold depending on whether you get the glass bottle trade.
Threadfinn2 months ago
Or yeah anywhere in between
