Passive Mob Spawning Strategy

The passive mob cap is only 10. However, because vast numbers of creatures spawn during initial chunk generation, this cap is almost always filled, making subsequent passive mob spawns extremely rare under normal gameplay. Still, this does not mean we cannot force them to spawn.
Spawning Mechanics:
Passive mob spawning is attempted once every 20 seconds (400 ticks). While far less frequent than most mob spawning, passive mobs do not naturally despawn. Spawning can occur at locations that are both more than 24 blocks away (Euclidean distance) from the player and within a chunk whose center is within 128 blocks of the player. When spawning is attempted, the target chunk must have a Ticket Level ≤ 31 (which is one chunk ring smaller than the player's render distance). Since the cap-check radius is slightly larger than the F3 pie chart's entity detection range, animals spawning near the outer boundary might not immediately show up in the pie chart.
Mob Cap Calculation & C-Count (entity_spawning_stat) in F3:
The game calculates the C-count by counting all animals in chunks with a Ticket Level < 33, extending one ring beyond the player's render distance. At Render Distance 2, animals within a 9x9 chunk area centered on the player count toward the mob cap, whereas spawning only occurs within the inner 5x5 area. Note: Leashed animals do not count toward the C-count.
An important factor that can disrupt this strategy is chunk loaders outside your render distance (e.g., ender pearl or nether portal loaders). (Note: Spawn chunks were removed in 1.21.9, which makes this strategy far more viable in the Overworld.) If chunk loaders are active, any animals within 2 chunks of the loaded area (e.g., a 5x5 area around a pearl loader) will contribute to the mob cap, severely hindering passive mob spawning.

How to Operate:
To force-spawn animals, you need to keep your C-value below 10—either by lowering your render distance or killing nearby animals. Make sure you stay at least 24 blocks away from potential spawn locations. Since spawning is checked only once every 20 seconds, you only need to reduce your render distance a few seconds before the timer hits 0s, 20s, 40s (though tracking this timing precisely can be tricky in Draftout).
Practical Strategies:
Currently, the most consistent application is force-spawning Striders in the Nether for goals like "This Boat Has Legs" and "Breed Striders", because the Nether only spawns this single mob type and its lava oceans provide ideal terrain for mob spawning.https://youtu.be/VZdKj7H0gOs
Overworld applications are still being explored, but potential uses include force-spawning Polar Bears for the "Die to a Polar Bear" goal, or spawning Rabbits in biomes like Cherry Groves for the "Breed Rabbits" goal.

This strategy was originally devised by Yumeko, with the underlying mechanics detailed by Dilu, and the Strider force-spawning method pioneered by dujile. Additionally, newest version aa runners have extensively tested and implemented this technique to force-spawn Mooshrooms and Striped Wolves.

what am I supposed to look at what is C value?
nakedhippo2195872 months ago
I might have it off as well in F3 settings would appreciate if you can explain

i assume its the c value in entity_spawn_counts
sam2 months ago
Ok so in theory, this would take on average 2 minutes 10 seconds to trigger a mob spawn on 2 rd in ideal conditions (if you pillar up, 1 min 45 seconds)

its in entity_spawn_counts
