More Spawn Lava Pools Generation

gameplay
I have played a number of games recently where there is no visible forced lava pool generated at spawn, even in birds eye view. For example this last game there was only one behind a hill that was away from the "linear" direction both players took. Then later in the game Opponent found a random lava pool not at spawn and entered and because we saw no forced lava pool at spawn, I can't even have a way to contest nether other than randomly running on surface for lava pool or finding a good enough cave. All this to say, while I don't know how the lava pool generation works I would like to see more lava pools generated within the small spawn radius if possible, it would make the game less RNG and more skilled in my opinion.

Also because there isn't even a guaranteed lava pool, I have had games where I loop back to spawn to try to enter and there is just nothing, which doesn't seem okay. Yes, obviously there should be a bonus to exploration and caving, but you should at least be given a fallback if you don't find any lava or good caves soi you can contest goals.

i think the main issue here is that the spawn lava pools can just fail to generate, and draftout doesn't make any additional attempts due to the failure to generate

shipwreck and swamp hut seed types very often have no spawn lava because there's a lot of water nearby
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
in mcsr ranked i don't think you can ever just not have an enter
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
obviously it's way more important in ranked, but on some boards/seeds the nether is required to win in draftout too

yea this
sugaarush3 weeks ago
and aren't lava pool spawns already increased?
sugaarush3 weeks ago
and in modern version cavin is fairly consistant if u recognize its a big cave system
happykyloOP3 weeks ago
Yes but while there is some skill involved in finding good caves is it still relatively rng based
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
finding caves is skill, whether or not the cave happens to go all the way down to lava is rng
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
and then you either strip mine for 1-10m for lava or go back to surface and find a new cave, which takes like 3m

this is being addressed with the next update, hopefully in a few days

someone needs to study the brain activity of a draftout player when their opponent gets

there's plenty of skill in playing the odds when there's no spawn lava - noticing and remembering its missing, knowing how to juice your odds of finding it (stacking up, running in 3rd person, knowing how to find an air cave beneath an ocean cave, watching your subtitles, other strats I don't know), reading the board and deciding whether exploring is better than staying in place and doing the goals you know you can get
pancelor3 weeks ago
plus there's just more texture to the game if there's lots of different kinds of seeds. removing all no-spawn-lava seeds feels like a shame to me
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago(edited)
there's no location with as many exclusive goals as the nether that doesn't have a guaranteed way to get there

good players already do all of those things and more, and it's still a problem
pancelor3 weeks ago
"still a problem" meaning what, exactly? maybe you mean something like, "the better player loses sometimes" ? that seems good to me. it's a random game, that should happen sometimes. it gives the game a poker sort of flavor
pancelor3 weeks ago
to be clear i think when you lose to rng it feels terrible, as a player. but i also think it's good for the game for that to be possible (not too often, but sometimes)
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
a problem as in, both players obviously know that the winning move is to enter the nether, but neither player can find a lava pool
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
until one does and promptly wins the game
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
it's not fun or interesting gameplay for either player
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
even if there was a visible lava pool near spawn every game, "better player loses" because of nether would still be a thing
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
if the early/mid game naturally leads both players far from spawn, into an area that happens to have no surface lava
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago(edited)
one player opts to go back to spawn (slow but guaranteed), other player dives a cave and gets lucky
GracefulBeauty3 weeks ago
but at least then there's some interesting decision-making / routing that comes into play
Ralt3 weeks ago
From my experience it's pretty obvious when there's not gonna be a visible lava pool on surface, either x or/and z has to have a value that is more than 250 or less than -250, so if u spawn like x = -425 and z = 140 and it's usually close to an ocean, u just will not see it. So by deducing this, i from the moment the game starts know that i'll have to find a lava pool underground, most of the times.

yea I think even if spawn lava pools are "less vanilla" they introduce a new skill of like choosing to explore really far for other goals and using things like caves or towering up to find a different lava pool or staying near spawn and routing back eventually to enter nether with a lava pool you know is there and overall it would just increase the competitiveness of the game rather than having the nether goals be somewhat rng in some games
