This is not vanilla. And would mean you gain this additional information:
Minecraft: The heart and story of the game - Opponent has a crafting table in inventory.
Nether: Bring summer clothes - Opponent has entered the nether (already known from "We need to go deeper")
The End: Or the beginning? - Opponent has entered the end (already known from "The end?")
Adventure: Adventure, exploration and combat - Opponent has killed any mob, or has been killed by any living entity.
Husbandry: The world is full of friends and food - Opponent has consumed anything that can be consumed other than cake.

So additional information is either killed/died to a mob, eaten, has a crafting table.

The only reason for this suggestion is the occasional confusion that occurs when a 10/20/30 advancement goal is there, and you try to count the opponents goals and they have less than expected. https://discord.com/channels/1493030345048719483/1530154455515922573/1530154455515922573 is a suggestion to not count root advancements, which I and others disagree with.

Trying to gauge whether this idea is liked/disliked or if it would be beneficial only in games with an advancement goal on the board.

i think it only showing if theres an advancement goal is worse than either alternative, since itd be confusing
also if its shown for the opponent imo it should be shown for when you complete it

I dont hate this, i think more clarity for new players makes sense. Its kinda funny to get 10 advancements off of just eating something and it feels like it randomly pops.
Maybe also something when you hover it in chat that says "This is a Root Advancement" to try to clarify it isnt coming from draftout?

this can be used to see if you should go for stuff like wood tools or foods or painting?

Idk I don’t mind the vanilla mechanism because it has an added skill element, and I’m unsure if giving your opponent more information is necessarily something we would want.

If a player opens the advancement tab they can see the root advancements there (albeit once they get it or any of its subsequent advancements), I’m fine with it just being a knowledge gap that new players would have to adjust to.

How about like a silent msg to the player on how many advancements they have

I wouldn’t mind something like that which replicates eat x, kill x, craft x, spy x etc. because saying “you have 5 advancements” indirectly explains to new players that root advancements count.
